A book with your name on it.

Self-Publishing

You bring the story. Let’s work on the book.

A finished draft is a wonderful thing. Then come the questions: Does it need another edit? What should the cover look like? How does it become a paperback, a hardcover, or an eBook?

StoneGate offers paid publishing services to help you work through those decisions, with a clear scope, agreed costs, and room for your voice.

Start with a conversation. Review a written proposal before committing to services.

Help where you need it

Let’s give your manuscript a way forward.

You may need support with one part of the process or several. We start with your manuscript, your intended readers, and the editions you want to produce.

Editing & proofreading

Give the words another careful look. We discuss the level of attention your manuscript needs, from clarity and consistency to a final check for errors.

  • Agreed type and extent of editorial work
  • Corrections and feedback in the agreed format
  • A defined number of review and revision rounds

Cover & interior design

A cover invites someone in. A comfortable interior keeps them reading. Plan both around your book’s subject, tone, and intended audience.

  • Cover direction and agreed design revisions
  • Typography, chapter openings, and page layout
  • Cover files prepared for the agreed editions

Print & eBook preparation

Turn the approved text and design into files ready for the next step. Paperback, hardcover, and digital editions each need their own preparation.

  • Print interiors and covers to agreed specifications
  • EPUB preparation when included in your project
  • A clear list of the final files you will receive

Production & printing

Work through trim size, binding, page count, proofs, and print quantities. StoneGate can discuss printing your books as part of your project.

  • Edition specifications and production planning
  • Proof and approval stages before final production
  • Printing and shipping costs identified in the proposal

One step at a time

Here’s how we begin.

  1. Tell us what you’re working on

Share the kind of book, manuscript stage, approximate word count, and the help you need. It is fine if you are still figuring some of that out.

  2. Discuss the manuscript and the work

We follow up about your goals and any material needed to assess the project. There is no need to upload your manuscript with the initial inquiry.

  3. Review the proposal

Agree on services, deliverables, revisions, responsibilities, fees, and a proposed schedule before work begins.

  4. Review, approve, and prepare for readers

You review the work at the agreed stages. Final file delivery, printing, and any publishing setup follow the arrangements in your service agreement.

Clear scope. Clear costs.

A proposal that fits your book.

A short reference guide and a long illustrated manuscript need different work. Start with a listed package or request a custom proposal; we confirm the scope and final fees after discussing your project.

Request a project proposal

What the proposal should make clear

  • The editing, design, and production work included
  • The editions, file formats, and deliverables
  • The number of revisions and how added work is priced
  • The schedule, approvals, fees, and payment arrangements
  • Any printing, shipping, ISBN, or third-party costs
  • Account access, publishing arrangements, and ongoing responsibilities

A few things you may be wondering

Before you take the next step.

Can I ask for just one service?

Yes. Tell us whether you need editing, design, formatting, printing, or help working out the next step. Your proposal will identify the services agreed for your project.

Does my manuscript have to be finished?

You can inquire while you are still writing. Let us know its current stage. Editing and production work are scheduled around the material available and the scope you agree to.

Who owns the work, and whose publishing accounts are used?

Ownership, permissions, final files, and account responsibilities are matters to settle in the written service agreement. We discuss your intended publishing arrangements before work begins, including who controls any retailer or distribution accounts.

What about ISBNs and an LCCN?

Tell us what identifiers you already have. The proposal should specify who supplies any ISBNs, the publisher or imprint associated with them, and any related fees. If Library of Congress assistance is requested, its scope and applicable eligibility need to be confirmed. An identifier or application does not promise library purchases or bookstore placement.

Are printed copies included?

Your proposal will say whether printing is included or quoted separately, along with the quantity, specifications, proofs, shipping, and any applicable taxes. Preparing print files and producing physical copies are separate items in the scope.

How long will it take, and how many revisions are included?

That depends on the manuscript, services, and editions. Your proposal will identify a schedule and revision allowance. Changes to the scope or delays in supplying material or approvals may affect both cost and timing.

Will my book be available through retailers?

Retailer or distribution setup must be expressly included in your agreement. We will discuss the intended channels, account ownership, fees, and ongoing responsibilities. Availability for ordering does not guarantee that stores will stock copies or that a book will reach a particular sales level.

Is this the same as Traditional Publishing?

Self-publishing services are paid work agreed with the author. StoneGate’s Traditional Publishing program considers manuscripts separately. Buying services does not include or guarantee acceptance into that program. Read about Traditional Publishing.

Let’s talk about your book

What are you working on?

A few details will help us start the conversation. Tell us what you know so far, and where you could use a hand.

This is an inquiry about paid self-publishing services. Sending it does not place an order or commit you to a fee.

For longer manuscripts, the proposal adds words above the package allowance at the included per-word services' rates. Flat-fee work remains in the package price; per-page or custom work needs a scope review. We confirm the final scope and fee before work begins.

You can leave these blank if you would like help deciding. Services already included in your package will not be added twice to the initial proposal.
